The world has been filled with unrest and fear for the last few months. We have seen black men hurt and harmed in ways that are unspeakable. The reaction from the world at large has been fierce and uncompromising. As a mother, i am always focused on takeaway messages for my children. As my children individualize, the voice of their peers may become louder but I want my voice to be most consistent.

My son came to me, head hanging, energy defeated because he has internalized the message; Because I was born in this high melanin skin, my future is limited. This blog post is an abbreviated version of my response to him. My heart still hurts.
